General Everett Thomas, Vice Commander, U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev, discussing the future of space and the military's role in the last frontier.

Lt. General Klotz's Biography:

Lt. Gen. Frank G. Klotz is Vice Commander, Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. He assists the Commander in the development, acquisition and operation of the Air Forces space and missile systems. The command oversees a global network of satellite command and control, communications, missile warning and launch facilities, and ensures the combat readiness of America's intercontinental ballistic missile force. The command comprises more than 39,700 space professionals who provide combat forces and capabilities to North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Strategic Command. General Klotz also directs and coordinates the activities of the headquarters staff.

General Klotz entered the Air Force in 1973 as a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. He has commanded a Minuteman missile squadron, a missile launch task force, an operations group, a missile wing and a numbered air force. The general's staff assignments include tours on the Air Staff, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and at the State Department as a White House Fellow. He has also served on the faculty of the Air Force Academy, at NATO headquarters in Brussels, at the American Embassy in Moscow, Russia, and as the Director for Nuclear Policy and Arms Control with the National Security Council at the White House. Prior to assuming his current position, General Klotz was Commander, 20th Air Force, Air Force Space Command, and Commander, Task Force 214, U.S. Strategic Command.

Brig. General ThomasÂ’ Biography:

Brig. Gen. Everett H. Thomas is Vice Commander, U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. He is the center's focal point for air, space and information warfare expertise. He is responsible for Office of the Secretary of Defense-sponsored joint test programs, bridging the gap between requirements definition, test and evaluation, realistic training implementation and force-level experimentation. The general directs publication and distribution of Air Force tactics, techniques and procedures; Foreign Military Sales tactical doctrine manuals; and joint tactical doctrine publications. He also establishes a continuous tactics crosstalk environment, and enhances application of airpower and the ability to execute joint combat operations.

General Thomas was commissioned through the ROTC program in 1980. He has spent his career in a variety of fields including missile and space operations and maintenance. The general has commanded an Air Force station, a space launch squadron, a missile operations group and a space wing. His staff assignments include executive officer to the Vice Commander of Air Force Space Command, and assistant executive officer to the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff. He has also served as Assistant Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs, Africa, and International Negotiations, on the Joint Staff. In this position he represented the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the Moscow Treaty delegation. As the chairman's representative, he protected the critical strategic offensive arms force structure.
